JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Zoo Keeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to animal care, welfare and conservation and be responsible for the daily husbandry of a variety of species, including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Key Responsibilities:


Animal Care: Perform daily husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning, and enrichment for a diverse range of animals.

Monitor animal health and behaviour, reporting any changes to the Head Keeper or veterinary staff.

Administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed by the veterinary team.


Exhibit Maintenance:

Ensure animal enclosures are clean, safe and well-maintained.

Assist in the design and implementation of habitat enhancements and enrichment activities.


Public Engagement:

Conduct animal experiences including school visits.

Interact with the public to provide information about the animals and the zoo's conservation efforts.


Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of animal care, feeding and health when required.


Team Collaboration:

Work closely with other keepers, volunteers and interns to ensure the highest standards of animal care. Participate in team meetings, training sessions and professional development opportunities.


Qualifications: Skills:

Strong knowledge of animal behaviour, health and welfare as well as experience in working at a zoo.

Excellent communication and public speaking skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical fitness to perform manual labour and handle animals safely.


Other Requirements:

Must be able to work weekends, holidays and flexible hours as needed.

A valid UK driver’s license.
